Discover the archaeology, first-hand accounts of life in the city and the effects that this greatest of Tudor monarchs had on life in York during his thirty-eight year reign.
Focusing on Henry VIII’s only visit to the city, in 1541, when Henry and his new wife, Catherine Howard, came to receive homage from the citizens of York following a northern rebellion – known as the Pilgrimage of Grace – the exhibition explores how the civic authorities, guilds and the once-powerful church institutions of York fared during this turbulent time in England’s history.
Includes costumes from some of the most popular TV and film dramatisations of his time on the English throne including Showtime’s ‘The Tudors’ and those seen in the BBC’s classic series ‘The Six Wives of Henry VIII’.
