Selby Abbey was the first monastery to be founded in the North of England after the Norman conquest, and contains some stunning medieval features that have survived intact despite the Dissolution in 1539 and a major fire in 1906.

The Abbey’s star attraction can be found in the 14th-century Quire and the magnificent East Window, widely regarded as one of the finest pieces of stained glass in England. Constructed in 1340, the window is surrounded by elaborate tracery and contains seven lights in a medieval ‘Tree of Jesse’.

Selby Abbey Medieval Day

A fun day for all the family which explores life at Selby Abbey as a medieval monastery.  This will include re-enactments and demonstrations from Normannis History Group, music from the Clerkes of All Saints, craft stalls, birds of prey, archery and bell ringing.
